You know a restaurant is good when it features on Gourmet Traveller's Australian Restaurant Guide, and Quay is no exception. It claimed the number two spot on the food expert's list of the best restaurants in Sydney, and for good reason - it is truly exceptional. Located at the Overseas Passenger Terminal at The Rocks, the venue's floor-to-ceiling windows give way to astonishing views across the water, and the food placed before you only enhances your experience.
With a focus on fresh produce and diversity within the dishes, you'll find gourmet delights such as a congee of Northern Australian mud crab, fresh palm heart and egg yolk emulsion on the menu alongside sturdier offerings including Flinders Island salt grass lamb, spring garden vegetables, smoked oyster, seaweed and anchovy. There are vegetarian options and a beautifully planned out dessert menu, so no one will go home disappointed. Just be warned that Quay is incredibly popular - so much so that Friday and weekend evenings are booked out up to six months in advance!
For a breakfast or brunch you won't forget any time soon, head to Darlington's Twenty 8 Acres. Ranked number one on TripAdvisor's selection of the best restaurants in Sydney, it's famed for its exquisite coffee and fresh food. Best of all, you don't have to be up at the crack of dawn to enjoy it - Twenty 8 Acres is open every day except for Tuesday until 3.00 pm.
The restaurant aims to serve the freshest, highest quality food possible at affordable prices. Almost everything on the menu is made on site, right down to the cucumbers pickled in-house. The few things Twenty 8 Acres doesn't make itself are sources locally and from the best boutique producers available, including Bowan Island Bakery bread and Numero Uno Coffee from Alexandria.
