Adelaide is famous for many things. Its gloriously long summers, nearby world-class wine regions and a raft of busy, exciting markets to name but a few. The South Australian capital is arguably the cultural mecca of the country, and during April this year it will show off this world of unique imagination and style with its third Adelaide Food and Wine Festival.
Make sure your hotel accommodation in Adelaide is booked, and check out what you can do at this year's event.
Held this year from April 4-13, the Adelaide Food and Wine Festival is a chance for keen culinary tourists to traverse the local region in search of a new favourite dish or drink, and for South Australians to show off their hospitality pedigree through a range of stalls and events.
Unlike many hospitality events, Adelaide Food and Wine Festival is held in no single location. In fact, the entire city takes part in the week, with restaurants, vineyards and entertainers hosting shows and events all over Adelaide, from the beaches, through the central city and even out in the regional areas.
Here's an example of three:
On April 9 you can witness a challenge worthy of being on a TV show such as Master Chef. This event is hosted by 891 ABC Adelaide, and features four chefs. Each of these chefs is in charge of one particular course (from canapes to dessert), and must work with a specially chosen ingredient. The ingredients are pickled cockles (canapes), sweet corn (entree), saltbush lamb (main) and chocolate (dessert).
Where? Hickinbotham Hall, National Wine Centre
Sips in the Sticks II: If you enjoy a rustic regional setting, make sure to check out Sips in the Sticks II on April 13. This event, making a return from last year, is hosted by renowned wine writer Max Allen, and features humorous talks by the area's leading vino ladies. Lunch is catered for by the local Afghan community, and the whole event celebrates regional diversity, friendship and rural life.
Where? Glen Roy Shearing Shed, Coonawarra (about 50 minutes south of Adelaide's CBD)

There are two excellent food trails on during the event. The Vegan Trail is hosted by Bliss Organic Cafe on April 8, and takes you through the city's famous Central Market, the local food court and Bliss Wellness Centre to learn about vegan cooking and a healthy lifestyle. Alternatively, you could try the famous Bacon Trail on April 5 or 10, where Richard Gunner leads you through the Central Market to learn all about bacon!

Of course, there is a whole host of other great events happening around the CBD, as well as at numerous vineyards around the area. Make sure to check out the website for more details.
Adelaide has plenty of public transport options available to get you where you need to go. Though a taxi may be your best option to travel out to the satellite events around the city, buses and trains are an excellent choice whilst you are within the city itself.
Metrocard is the local digital ticketing system, and is almost definitely the best option to pay for transport services if you are going to be doing a lot of roaming. You could even grab an Adelaide Metro Visitors Pass, as this allows you unlimited travel for three consecutive days for buses, trams and trains, and even includes maps of the area.
As for your Adelaide holiday accommodation, Mantra has two unique properties that are ideally located within the CBD to put you at the heart of the action. No matter which events you want to see, make sure you check out the facilities available at both Mantra on Hindmarsh Square and Mantra on Frome. Both offer a range of room type options, as well as plenty of onsite facilities to keep you both entertained and comfortable during your stay.
