Preparing for your first day at a new job in a new city

Save yourself the trouble and only pack what you need when you move city. Preparing for your first day at a new job in a new city

If you're planning on moving cities to take on a new job, congratulations! You're about to take a significant step on your career journey.

It's natural to be apprehensive when so much is going on at once - you have a completely different environment to adapt to, and a brand new role to navigate in the workplace.

To make the process easier on yourself, make sure you line up your long-term accommodation before you prepare to make the big move. Live@Mantra properties could be a great place to base yourself as you get familiar with your new location and the best part is that the apartments are fully furnished so you can tick furniture shopping off your to-do list.

Once you're settled into your new home, it's time to mentally and physically prepare for your first day on the job. If you can, it might be a good idea to take a tour around the premises and meet some of your colleagues a day or two before you start work.

If that's not possible, you could take a walk or drive to the office and familiarise yourself with the area, noting down traffic patterns, local eateries and coffee shops and anything else that may be beneficial to know about on your first day.

Another way to ease any nerves you may have is to make sure you're as prepared as possible by planning your outfit the night before. Make sure shoes are polished, shirts are ironed and your bag is packed with any documents you may need. Think about what you'll do for lunch and set as many alarms as you need to ensure you're up and ready in time to leave.

Most of all, remember to relax. You've been hired for a reason, and you have a whole new city to explore!
