Music on Magnetic

Music on Magnetic

Magnetic Island is traditionally known for its luminous National Park attractions and unique, quiet setting. Found just off the coast of Townsville, in North Queensland, the island has a population fewer than 2,500, making it a fantastic island getaway retreat for all those hoping to escape the hustle and bustle of mainland Australia.

Come May 2-9, it's also a place for music, dance and learning.

Music on Magnetic

Music on Magnetic is one of the must-visit events for any budding musicians or music-enthusiasts. However, as it only accepts 60 registrants, it's also pretty exclusive.

The week itself consists of a variety of workshops, seminars and performances to both teach and inspire, featuring some of the best names in musical creativity. The event doesn't just give you a platter of tastes from a variety of entertainment sectors as some workshop-style events do, however. Instead, guests choose one of 12 different 'streams' they wish to attend, and follow this single style to the end, learning as much as they can in the eight-day duration.

On top of those, the registration fee also comes with daily yoga sessions, free performances in the evening and discounts at some Magnetic Island restaurants.

"Amateur and advanced musicians alike can benefit from the creative workshops at Music on Magnetic, happening this May."

Who's teaching at Music on Magnetic?

There are eight teachers this year, each bringing their own unique style to the event.

For example, world-renowned Linsey Pollak will be attending, hosting two classes. The first is a Dance Band Workshop, where participants utilise a variety of instruments - from the sax to the ukulele - to create music that people can dance to. He will also hold a Live Looping Class, where he will impart his knowledge about using only your voice to create vast, diverse and spectacular tunes.

Also in attendance will be Gemma Turner, Beat Lehmann, Lamine Sonko and Nicky Bomba, among others.
