Love the dark? You'll certainly love Dark Mofo

Dark MoFo

When winter is close, and the lights go out. When the temperature drops and there are few people about. Hobart lights up with shades of red, and the people stir and wake from their bed.

If you love being inspired by the mystical and the downright strange, where all senses are on high alert from an eclectic mix of stimulus, make sure you book your holiday accommodation for Dark Mofo this year.

Dark Mofo

From June 12-22 this year it will be the third anniversary of one of Hobart's fastest growing arts and music festivals: Dark Mofo. If you are tired of standard cultural festivals and are looking for something a little more out there, Hobart is the place for you when this event kicks off.

"Dark Mofo has changed the way we think about winter," says Tasmania's Minister for Tourism Will Hodgman. "In just three years, this unique festival has developed an extraordinary reputation."

The event is a collaboration of multiple organisations - both city and state-wide - to create a celebration of the night, utilising musical performances, art installations, fantastic light shows and more.

"If you are tired of standard cultural festivals and are looking for something a little more out there, Hobart is the place for you when this event kicks off. "

What to do at Dark Mofo

Here are some events you should try this year.

Winter Feast

The Winter Feast is a five-day event running along Princess Wharf, about a 10 minute's walk from Mantra Collins Hotel. It features over 60 food and beverage stallholders, including Fat Pig Farm and Devils Brewery. In addition, there will also be five guest chefs participating, so make sure you are ready to feast on a wonderful array of creative cuisine.

Art around the city

Be sure you also visit some of the fascinating art installations located in Hobart during Dark Mofo, such as the Bastiaan Maris Fire Organ - a surreal instrument that uses "harmonically tuned flame-throwers" to produce melodies. You can find this in Dark Park, about a 12-minute walk from Mantra One Sandy Bay Road, from 4pm-10pm.

Of course, there are also a multitude of musical acts, artists, speakers and other entertainers taking part in Dark Mofo 2015, so head to the event's website, check out the calendar and see what takes your fancy.
