Kick-start your active year with the Kingscliff Triathlon

If you've decided to improve your exercise regime as one of your New Year's resolutions, it's time to get serious. A whopping 92 per cent of people who make resolutions are unsuccessful in achieving their goals, according to research from the University of Scranton, but that doesn't mean you're going to fail. We've found the perfect event to help kick-start your new regime: the Kingscliff Triathlon.

The 'multi-fun weekend' takes place on 14 and 15 February, providing the perfect Valentine's Day treat to combine adventure and activity with spending time with friends, family and loved ones. On the first day there's a fun ride and social ride to get the ball rolling, while Sunday sees the triathlon get underway.

It's the 11th anniversary of the Tweed Coast Holiday Parks Kingscliff Multisport Weekend, with the sunny beachside town of Kingscliff providing the setting for all the action. Participants can choose from 12 different event categories that cater to all levels of fitness and ages, which means no one gets left out.

Young athletes can take part in the Junior 7-9 years program or Big Kids 10-12 years, with the former covering a 100m swim, 3km ride and 500m run. The latter involves a 200m swim, 6km ride and 1km run. The events are fully supervised and there's no competitive element to hold kids back - it's all about giving it a go and having fun.

The Individual Tempta is ideal for kids aged 13 and over and anyone competing in their first triathlon. If you're afraid of the water, don't panic - you can sit the swim out.

The On Running Fun Run covers 5km and is perfect for people who are keen to have a run and experience the thrill of the Kingscliff event without going all out in the full triathlon. Keep the fun and friendly spirit going with the Fusion Cycles Social Ride, which spans 62km.

The Individual Sprint allows competitors to pick up the pace through a shorter format, which includes a 750m swim, 20km ride and 5km run. This event requires less training and endurance than the full triathlon and is perfect for those testing the waters of the main event.

For those wanting a real challenge, there's the Individual Olympic race, which is the full triathlon. Race through 1.5km of swimming, a 40km bike ride and a 10km run for the feeling of ultimate satisfaction at the end of it all. You can race within your own age group or extend the challenge by competing in the open (elite) group.

Compete as part of a group with the Corporate Teams Cup Challenge, in which you can compete alongside your teammates in the Group section or opt for the Tag Team variation, where each team member completes one leg of the event. This is perfect for workmates, families and friends who want to compete together.
