Have a royally good time at the Royal Easter Show

Sydney Royal Easter Show

At the end of March/beginning of April each and every year, Sydney hosts perhaps one of the most spectacular festivals in the country. In fact, the some 900,000 visitors that arrive annually make this extravaganza the largest yearly event in Australia. Is your Sydney resort accommodation booked for this year's Royal Easter Show?

Sydney Royal Easter Show

First started back in 1823, the famous Easter spectacular held each year in Sydney is run by the state's Royal Agricultural Society (RAS). It is a celebration of everything Australian about Australia, influenced by both rural traditions and modern day Aussie life.

Running from March 26 until April 8 this year, you can find the Royal Easter Show at the city's famous Olympic Park area, housed at Sydney Showground. It will be open at 9am every day and runs until late.

So what can you experience during this year's 2015's event?

Start by taking your kids to the carnival. The Royal Easter Show features the country's largest carnival, with over 100 rides fit for both adults and children. The Coca Cola Carnival has the biggest, most gut-churningly wild rides, whereas the Kids Carnival is a little easier on the stomach, and perfect to keep your younger ones entertained for hours.

Next, make sure to see rural Australia brought to life with all the various traditional events taking place. There are three Grand Parades to watch, as well as a wood chopping competition, flower and garden show, show jumping and rodeo event and more.

If you love animals, you'll get a kick out of the Show's Animal Walk attraction. Beginning on the corner of Channel 9 Grand Parade and Orana Parade is a green trail marked out by animal paws. If you follow this delightful track, you'll be taken on a journey through all of the animal pavilions located here this year, each offering their own unique experience and range of adorable farm animals.

Of course, that's not all you can do at the Easter Show. There are plenty more things to see and do, as well as taste, pat and listen to! Make sure you leave loads of time each day during your Easter Sydney holiday so you can take in as much of the famous event as possible.

How to get there

Sydney Showground is located around 16 kilometres west of the CBD. However, thanks to a combined effort by the RAS and TransportNSW, getting there couldn't be easier.

Extra public transport services will be running during the show's duration, including both trains and buses. Trains run from Lidcombe Station to Olympic Park, though you can also easily bus from the city centre if you'd prefer.

Conveniently included with your ShowLink ticket to the Easter Show is a complementary ride out to Olympic Park! Make sure to check Transport NSW's website for timetable information for your stay.
