Good sports at the Australian University Games

The Gold Coast is hosting this year's Australian University Games, which will see competitors from around the country compete in a variety of sports. Good sports at the Australian University Games

There aren't many sporting events in the world that can claim the impressive statistics that come out of the Australian University Games on the Gold Coast every year.

This year will be the games' 20th anniversary, and is predicted to mark yet another year of growth as Australia's largest annual multi-sport event.

If you're thinking of heading to the Gold Coast for this event, there is no better time than the present to book your Gold Coast accommodation as thousands of students and their support crews are expected to converge in the city from September 29 to October 4.

In 2013, university students will be competing in a range of sports from badminton and baseball to sailing and swimming, taekwondo and touch to fencing and football. All in all, more than 30 sports will be represented at the games.

You won't be watching amateurs either - these competitors are serious about their sports and many of them are even at an Olympic level of performance. Around 6,000 athletes are expected this year.

The size, competition and location of the games all contribute toward this event's reputation as a friendly, exciting and not-to-be-missed sports festival that keeps you on the edge of your seat and lets you see some of Australia's up-and-coming sports stars.

One of the most exciting aspects of the attraction will be the attendance of the Australian Uniroos. As a group of Australia's finest sportsmen and women in multiple disciplines, they have been burning up the world stage with a slew of medals in international university games.

Many national sports stars have started their careers on this team, such as swimmer Brooke Hansen and pole vaulter Steve Hooker, so be sure to keep an eye on the new young stars at this year's University Games.
