Perth was once known for its breathtaking beaches and vast expanses of beautiful, untouched land - and while it still is, these days the city is a bustling metropolis with plenty more to offer. One of these is the vibrant coffee culture that exists through the Western Australian area, which you can experience with a trip to Perth.
Before you board your plane - or hit the road, as the case may be - you'll need to book in some holiday accommodation to ensure you have a comfortable place to rest your head once all that caffeine wears off. Try Mantra on Murray for a venue that is located right in the heart of the city, giving you plenty of opportunities to get out and explore the cafe scene on foot. Cook up a storm (or at least a snack) in your room's fully equipped kitchenette and enjoy in-house movies and Foxtel on your TV. Once you can bring yourself to leave the comforts of your room and you're wondering what to do in Perth, head to the following locations for a taste of coffee culture.
With a cool 9.0 rating on coffee site Beanhunter and a 96 per cent favour rating on Urbanspoon, Bossman is a hot contender for Perth's best-loved coffee spot. Head to the Mt Lawley location Monday to Saturday, from 7.00 am until 4.00 pm, and enjoy freshly brewed Twinpeaks coffee, indulgent spanikopitas and other delicious treats, with coffees coming as the simple sizes of 'small' and 'big'. Greek fare is big on the menu here, and the coffee is second to none, so make sure you put some time aside to truly enjoy this gem of a cafe.
Fez Cafe is another one that has received strong ratings by Perth's most discerning coffee lovers, so make the trip to Mt Lawley to see what all the fuss is about. It's open early seven days a week, giving you plenty of time to get in for your morning brew. Coffees come with double shots as standard here, and there's also a selections of teas, juices and other beverages for when the caffeine becomes too much to handle.
While you're there, take a bit out of the all day food menu with a meal of chipolata with tomato and chickpea braise, fried eggs, olives, yoghurt and a side of Turkish flat bread to really whet your appetite.

While not strictly a cafe, the coffee at Gordon St Garage is too good to miss, and you can stick around for a mouthwatering food offering . The 'Mano a Mano' coffee roaster produces Gordon St Garage's own blend along with Single Estate Coffees, and you can get everything from classic espresso cups through to fancy cold drip and AeroPress varieties. Cool down on a hot Perth day with a cold coffee for a unique twist on your morning brew, and treat yourself to a salumi board lunch with bresaola, cacciatore, sopressa and bread.
The menu here goes above and beyond your standard cafe fare, offering interesting dishes such as charred corn with chipotle, capsicum and iceberg salad alongside a honeyed leg ham and gruyere toastie.
Still want more coffee? Head to Moore & Moore Cafe, located in Fremantle. The heritage setting of the Moore building provides unique ambiance for the cafe, which was developed to serve quality coffee and food made with love. Sit back in the sun-drenched courtyard and enjoy homemade cakes with your morning latte, or splash out on something more substantial such as the grilled barramundi, asparagus, brocolini, confit garlic cream and chili salad.
The cafe's own coffee blend is roasted just down the road, and there's also an impressive tea selection if you're that way inclined.
