Brisbane's best burgers

Brisbane's best burgers

Forget Year of the Horse, 2014 may as well have been called Year of the Burger. Never before have we seen such an abundance of upmarket burger bars, greasy takeaways joints and swanky eateries serving up a humble burger and calling it gourmet.

In fact, the total revenue generated by the the nation's fast food burger shops in the past year has totalled a huge $4 billion, according to IBISWorld's Fast Food Burger Shops market research report, released in July 2014.

It's no wonder that our capital cities are experiencing a surge in burger consumption. If you're planning a holiday to Brisbane, are going to be moving there for business or leisure, or are just in need of a decent burger, then you won't be disappointed as there are lots of great places to choose from in the city.

Miel Container

You can't go wrong with a 95 per cent Urban Spoon rating, and one look at Miel Container's huge, meaty offerings show why this CBD joint is so popular. Expect big, classic burgers with all the fillings you know and love - lettuce, cheese, tomato and all the trimmings. Make sure you try the chef's special sauce for a taste sensation you'll keep coming back for - mop up any extras with your crispy side of fries.

Getta Burger

Carina's hole-in-the-wall eatery is the perfect place for you to go to get your meat fix and load up on handcrafted burgers with house smoked meats and even the potential of chips nestled comfortably within your burger buns.

Getta Burger is open Wednesday to Sunday is all flavour, no fuss. It's one of the newest burger bars in town and is already generating quite the buzz.

The Bun Mobile

Finally there's a burger joint that can keep up with your frantic lifestyle - The Bun Mobile moves around as much as you do, thanks to its food truck structure. Bite into a hand-made steamed bun jam packed full of fresh local ingredients and get change from a $10 note. Savour twice cooked pork, wagyu beef, teriyaki chicken and vegetarian selections from the truck that journeys around the city to deliver tasty treats to hungry mouths. You can check its location on its website and even hire The Bun Mobile for your next function or private function.

Pony Dining

Pony Dining offers waterfront dining and breathtaking views across the Brisbane River, with a taste sensation to match the stunning scenes. Its menu is diverse and offers plenty of appealing dishes, including an aged 500g black onyx rib eye on the bone, but it's the burgers that capture our attention. Try a classic cheeseburger complete with pickles, cheddar cheese and ketchup or step things up with the soft shell crab burger, spiced up with wasabi aioli, betel leaves and pickled radish.

DA'Burger

DA'Burger has got plenty of heart, working to create employment opportunities for troubled teens. Along with doing its part to help give back to the community, DA'Burger also has a truly mouth watering menu to match. Try the Josephine, which consists of grilled seasoned chicken tenderloins topped with garlic buttered field mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, melted Swiss cheese, red onion, mayo and house-made tomato relish. While you're at it, grab some of DA'Burger's special beer battered chips sprinkled with a herbed sea salt mix.

Howzat Burger

The beloved Howzat Burger can now be found in more locations than ever, giving Brisbane dwellers plenty of opportunities to sink their teeth in. Make sure you taste the 'Square Leg', which features cumin-spiced lamb, balsamic barbeque onions, tomato, iceberg lettuce and mint yoghurt, or opt for the vegetarian-friendly 12th Man, made up of chickpeas, shredded beets, cucumber and mint yoghurt.
